Phillip Brow

Phillip Brow is a seasoned technology executive with over 30 years of experience at industry leaders like Intel, Honeywell, and Emcore. As CTO of iTherapyDocs, he has led product development and process optimization, focusing on innovation and efficiency. Drawing on his engineering mindset and family legacy, Phillip founded ARX Steel to pioneer a new approach to building, combining modern design with the strength and resilience of steel.

 

Carrying forward a legacy of innovation, he’s helping others create homes that are as durable, efficient, and future-ready as his own.

The Story of Arx Steel

The Legacy of Steel: A Modern American Tale

Long before the world spoke of sustainable building or climate-resilient homes, a humble yet revolutionary idea was born on a windswept ranch in Wyoming. There, amidst the grit and resolve of the American West, Gaylord Brow crafted something deceptively simple, a steel fence post, shaped with such geometric precision that it could grip a staple like no other. This wasn’t just engineering; it was ingenuity rooted in the land.

The genius lay in the design: a staple, when driven into the post and left 3/8” from being fully seated, would hold the wire but not bind it, tight enough to stretch over miles of fence without slipping. Word of this innovation traveled fast. Soon, the post found its way to Mountain Bell, MCI, Western Electric, Wisconsin Public Services, Sandia National Labs, and even crossed oceans to Saudi Arabia, Australia, and South Korea. Sadly, Gaylord Brow passed, and so did the marketing of the product. 

But the story doesn’t end there.

In 1996, Gaylord’s youngest son, Phillip Brow, stood at a different kind of frontier. With his wife, Lisa, by his side, Phillip declared that he was ready to build a home, not just any home, but one that would defy tradition. When she asked him what qualified him, he said simply, “I helped build a barn once.” That was enough.

But there was a twist. Phillip didn’t plan to use wood or the conventional materials of suburbia. Instead, he would resurrect the very stud his father designed—the same steel that had lined ranches and deserts—and use it as the skeleton of a house.

Welding each stud into a six-inch channel iron, Phillip laid out the framework with the precision of a craftsman and the daring of a pioneer. The studs stood tall, two feet apart on both the inside and outside walls, with each inner stud offset by twelve inches from the outer one, creating a fortress of steel with vertical supports every foot. The brilliance of the design was more than structural; the inner and outer walls never touched, forming a cavity that became an acoustic barrier. With blown-in foam insulation, the home achieved exceptional thermal resistance, quiet, efficient, and fire-hardened.

What began as a fence post on a Wyoming ranch became the backbone of a prototype home—proof that with vision, even the simplest materials can evolve into something legendary.
